How to: Shade a slide background.
Solution:
Select the 'Format' menu, select 'Custom Background...', and then select 'Shaded...' from the 'Background Fill' drop-down list box.
Do the following to add a shaded background to a slide in a presentation:
1) Select the 'Format' menu and select 'Custom Background...'. (The Custom Background dialog box appears.)
2) Select 'Shaded...' from the 'Background Fill' drop-down list box. (The Shaded Fill dialog box appears.)
3) Select the desired radio button from the 'Colors' group.
4) (Special Case) If the 'One Color' radio button is selected, do one of the following:
NOTE: The 'Color' drop-down list box and the 'Light/Dark' horizontal scroll bar appears.
Shaded Fill, One Color
a) Select the desired color from the 'Colors' drop-down list box. (The selected color appears in the Colors drop-down list box and in the Variants group.).
b) (Special Case) If 'Other Color..' is selected from the 'Color' drop-down list box, choose a standard or customized color not offered on the 'Color' drop-down list box.
c) Click 'Light' or 'Dark' to lighten or darken the color. (The change is reflected in the Variants group.)
5) (Special Case) If the 'Two Color' radio buttons is selected, do one or more of the following:
NOTE: The 'Color 1' and 'Color 2' drop-down list boxes appear.
Shaded Fill, Two Color
a) Select the desired color from the 'Color 1' drop-down list box. (The selected color appears in the Color 1 drop-down list box and the Variants group.)
b) (Special Case) If 'Other Color..' is selected from the 'Color' drop-down list box, choose a standard or customized color not offered on the 'Color' drop-down list box.
c) Select the desired color from the 'Color 2' drop-down list box. (The selected color appears in the Color 2 drop-down list box and the Variants group.)
d) (Special Case) If 'Other Color..' is selected from the 'Color' drop-down list box, choose a standard or customized color not offered on the 'Color' drop-down list box.
6) (Special Case) If the 'Preset' radio button is selected, select the desired preset color from the 'Preset Colors' drop-down list box. (The selected 'Preset Colors' drop-down list box appears, and the selected color appears in the 'Variants' group.)

7) Select the desired shade style radio button from the 'Shade Styles' group. (The selected shade style appears in the Variants group.)

8) Select the desired variant from the 'Variants' group. (The selected variant is highlighted.)

9) (Optional) Click 'Preview' to preview the shaded color selections without making any permanent changes.
NOTE: After the shaded color selections have been previewed, 'Preview' becomes dimmed until another color is selected.
10) Click 'OK'. (The Custom Background dialog box reappears.)
11) (Optional) Select the 'Omit Background Graphics from Master' check box.
12) (Optional) Click 'Preview' to preview the new shaded slide background without making any permanent changes.
NOTE: After the shaded slide background selections have been previewed, 'Preview' becomes dimmed until another color or shade is selected. Also, if the color selections have been previewed in the 'Shaded Fill' dialog box, 'Preview' will be dimmed.
13) Do one of the following:
a) Click 'Apply to All', to apply the changes to ALL the slides in the presentation.
b) Click 'Apply', to apply the changes to the current slide only.
c) Click 'Cancel', to cancel the changes.
